How do I use the Clipping Mask feature?

Corjl Legacy Designs

Designs which have transferred over from the previous version of Corjl are called Legacy Designs and will continue to work as they did previously. This includes the Clipping Mask feature. In these designs:

  • Clipping Masks will continue to use a Corjl Shape or Text as the clipping mask base layer.
  • The image being clipped to the shape mask or text will need to be placed in the layer above the shape or text.
  • The clipping mask can then be applied by right-clicking on the image layer name and selecting Create Clipping Mask.

Corjl Clipping Masks

The new version of the Clipping Mask feature will be available in newly created designs in the current Corjl platform.

Pro tip: In Corjl, any image can be used as the shape to create a clipping mask—it does not need to be a Corjl provided shape or frame.

To create a clipping mask with an image:

  1. Right-click on the image, text, or shape you want to use for the mask/frame.
  2. Select Make Clipping Mask from the right-click menu.
  3. Drag and drop the image over the top of the shape/mask or text and it will snap into place.

Please note: The image will be placed so it fills the entire mask image area by default. To have the image smaller than the clipping mask shape or to partially cover the shape, read the Other Tips section below.

Clipping PNG and SVG Images

When creating Clipping Masks using images with transparency such as PNG and SVG images, the shape below the image will automatically become transparent as well.

Other Tips

  • Adjusting and Repositioning the Image - Double-click on the image to adjust the size or position of the clipped image.

  • Partially Filled Clipping Masks - To have a clipped image fill only part of the clipping mask use the following steps:
  1. Right-click on the clipped image and go to the Clipping Mask > Fill Clipping Mask option.

  2. Click on the Fill Clipping Mask option to deselect it.
  3. Double-click on the clipped image and you can now reposition the image smaller or partially inside the clipping mask shape.

  • Replacing the Image - To replace the clipped image, drag the new image over the existing image and it will be automatically replaced.

  • Unclipping the Mask - To release the image from the clipping mask, right-click and select Clipping Mask > Release Clipping Mask.

  • Locking the Clipping Mask - To prevent a customer from being able to replace the image being used with the clipping mask, but still be able to move or resize the clipping mask, right click and select Clipping Mask > Lock Clipping Mask.

  • Turn Off Clipping Mask Feature - To turn off the clipping mask feature for the image mask, right-click on the image and de-select the Make Clipping Mask option.

Clipping Masks for Text

Clipping masks using Text as the mask work pretty much the same way: right-click to select Make Clipping Mask to turn "on" the mask, then drag the image you want over the top of the text until it fits.

However, adjusting the image is a bit different, because double-clicking on the text allows you to edit the text.

For text clipping masks, the image being clipped to the text can be resized and adjusted by clicking on the small “image” icon button that appears above the text when selected:
