How to Make a Canvas Larger Than 36x36 Inches?
If you're designing a large-format sign or poster and need your canvas to exceed the 36x36-inch size limit, here's how to do it while maintaining a printable file that still looks sharp.
β Why There's a Limit
Corjl 2.0 limits canvas sizes to a maximum of 36 inches by 36 inches at 300 PPI (pixels per inch) to maintain high-resolution outputs suitable for professional printing. However, you can go larger by adjusting the PPI (also referred to as DPI β dots per inch).
π How to Make Your Canvas Bigger
To increase the physical size of your canvas beyond 36x36 inches:
Lower the PPI
Drop the resolution to 180β200 PPI. This is perfectly acceptable for large signs and posters that are viewed from a distance.
Recalculate Your Canvas Size
For example:
- 36 inches at 300 PPI = 10,800 pixels
At 180 PPI, that same pixel dimension equals 60 inches
(
10,800 Γ· 180 = 60
)So, setting your canvas to 10,800 x 7,200 pixels at 180 PPI would give you a 60"x40" printable file.
π§ Why Lower PPI Works for Large Prints
Most large-format prints, like signage or posters, arenβt viewed up close like invitations or business cards. A resolution of 180β200 PPI is considered professional-grade for these kinds of designs, even with some detail included.
This standard comes from how people interact with posters β typically viewing them from several feet away, which makes a slightly lower resolution look perfectly crisp.
