Global Inheritance Feature

Global Inheritance works with the Global Design Settings and Global Listing Settings in your account.

The Global Inheritance feature maintains a connection between the Global Design Settings and the matching settings for a design even after the design has been created.

Because of that connection, or "link," any changes you make in your Global Design or Listing Settings will be automatically applied to that same setting in your designs and listings--making it a great way to "bulk update" your designs and listings!

Please Note: This feature works for the highlighted features in your Global Design Settings and Global Listing Settings shown below. The non-highlighted features will only apply to newly created designs and will not bulk update.

You can tell that a particular option is connected to your Global Settings because there will be small dotted lines around the edge of the selection box for that option in your Design and Listing Settings:

These dotted lines are a visual way to show that this connection to the Global Settings is being applied and that this feature is obeying the global setting:

Any design or listing setting that has these dotted lines visible around the selection box is directly linked to that same option in your Global Design Settings and Global Listing Settings and will automatically update to match any changes you make in your Global Settings.

Breaking the Link

If there is a design setting that you do not wish to be linked to your Global Settings (so it won't change when you update your Global Settings), you can break that connection by clicking on the selection box for that setting.

When you click on that setting, you will see the selection change so the "dotted lines" are removed (selected boxes will change to a solid color). This is telling you that this setting is no longer linked to the Global Design or Listing Settings and will not update when you update your Global Settings.

If you change your mind and want to re-establish that link to your Global Settings, you can do that by clicking on the selection box again until the dotted lines return with the correct setting.

Design Protections and Layer Protections

The interaction between Design Protection settings and Layer Protection settings is a little bit different.

Initially, both Design Protections and Layer Protections will obey the settings in the Global Design Settings area as shown:

However, Layer Protections will obey any changes you make in the Design Protection Settings as shown:

So for design protections, the hierarchy is Global Settings, then Design Protection Settings, and then Layer Protection Settings. Any changes made in the Design Protections area will override the Global Settings and Layer Protection Settings will obey those changes in the Design Protections.

If you have certain layers in the design that you wish to override the Design Protection settings, then you need to go into the Layer Protections and select each of those layers individually to apply those changes.

And that’s about it. Although this feature may seem a little tricky to understand at first, we think that giving you the ability to bulk update designs settings will be a huge time saver and help to your workflow!
