Backgrounds Feature

New designs will open with the default transparent Canvas Background option you have selected in the Global Design Settings area.

You can change/add a background to the design in two ways:

  1. To add a background image to the canvas, find the image you would like to use in your Images area, and then right-click and select Set Background Image.
  2. To add a background color to the canvas, go to your Layers panel and click the Add Background button found at the bottom of the panel:

Once you have added the desired background option to your canvas, you can use the controls found in the Right Panel area above the Layers to make adjustments to the background.

Based on the type of background applied, you can make the following adjustments:

  • Background Color – To change the Background to a color, click on the Background layer in the Layers panel and select the Color option in the Background type area that appears in the upper right panel. You will be able to select the Fill color or add a Gradient color by expanding those options below.
  • Background Image – You can add an image to use for the background of the canvas by right-clicking on the desired image in the Images tab and selecting Add to Backgrounds.

An image placed in the background of a design can be adjusted using the controls found in the right panel area of the Design Editor. There are four placement options for background images:

    • Fill Canvas – This option centers the image on the canvas and fills the entire canvas (including the bleed area) with the image to the edge of the shortest side of the image.
    • Crop to Fill – This option initially fills the canvas with the image the same as the Fill Canvas option, but allows you to double-click on the background of the canvas and move and/or resize the image using transformation handles.
    • Tile Image – This option tiles the image from the upper left corner of the canvas. You can use the Tile Size slider to change the size of the image and the number of times the image tiles on the canvas.
    • Fit to Canvas – This option condenses and resizes the image so that it fits the canvas. This option does not keep the image’s original proportions.

You can also access any background images that you have added to the Customer Assets > Background section by clicking on the Customer Backgrounds option beneath the image placement selections.

Remove Background - To remove a selected background image or color from the canvas, click on the Background layer in the Layers panel and and click the “trash can” icon button.
